
The First Sorrows of Young Werther is an epistolary novel by the Turkish author Mehmet Murat ildan, published (in Turkish) in Istanbul by the Truva Publishing House (Truva Yayinlari) in April 2007.

It carries the traces of German literary movement "Sturm und Drang." (German for "Storm and Stress") Starting from a paragraph in Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther, writer Mehmet Murat ildan has added a premier episode to Goethe's novel.

It takes place in the 18th century England. In 1769, young artist of a highly sensitive and passionate temperament, Werther, goes to Shakespeare's town Stratford upon Avon; while watching a play, he falls in love with a pretty girl who is an actress. Events will take him to the Dunnotar Castle on the north-east coast of Scotland.
